Christmas holiday?
I am taking my husband on an overseas holiday for Christmas. He knows that we will be going overseas but does not know where we will be going. I am looking for somewhere relatively inexpensive (flying from Brisbane, Australia), that will be fun and also let us have a relaxing holiday while still having plenty of things to do. We will be away for about 10 days. At the moment I am thinking about Singapore. But have also considered Vanuatu and Malaysia. Does anyone have any other suggestions of places to holiday?

- I suggest Bali, Indonesia. It is cheap and fun. Lots of great things to do.
- PHILIPPINES

Christmas is the most celebrated holiday in the Philippines!
- I have recently read a travel review which raved about the untouched beauty of the Solomon Islands and how, although they have had their troubles, the trouble spots are not where you go on holiday to as it's such a vast spread out country of different islands. It's inexpensive too. I would feel much safer there than in Indonesia or the Philippines, that's for sure!
I want to go either to Solomon Islands or to Samoa sometime soon - I like snorkeling and beach lazing. On the other hand, Malacca in Malaysia sounds really hip, cosmopolitan and historically interesting... but things are quite expensive there like here.
Have fun planning your surprise holiday - planning is half the fun of it and you do need a well planned/researched itinerary to make the most of a short trip :)
- We found Singapore really delightful - only 5 hours from Perth. The orchids in the Terminal building are magic.
We walked to most of the places from our Hotel - shopping, the Botanical Garden, museum. We have friends in Singapore who gave us a wow time, but usually we are in a hurry from Sourth Africa and are only passing through.
We also went across the causeway into Malaya - visited the market, the Temples, and the batic workshops. Orchids everywhere.
The contrast between the rich Western way of life, and the lifestyle of the little people was startling.
