If I am going to Tennessee for Christmas break, and going skiing, what kind of clothes should I pack?
I am used to the warmth of Florida so I have no idea what to pack!

- You should bring extra pants, snow pants, winter coat, sweatshirts, sweatpants, boots, extra heavy socks, hats, gloves, and scarfs. Neck warmers too.
- I have always found layering to be the best way to deal with cold weather (I am from Canada, cold weather and I go way back) Wearing a light undershirt with another layer of a long sleeve shirt, followed by a sweater, and a warm water proof jacket.
For pants you will want to wear a long underwear or leotard and a pair of track pants, if you are wearing heavy snow pants a leotard or thermal underwear underneath will be more than enough. The benefits of layers is you will loose less heat through the various layers, as well as if you find you are over heating it is easy to remove a layer of clothing.
Also two pair of socks, ski boots are often not insulated as much as you would like them to be, that combined with sweaty feet can lead to some very uncomfortable cold wet feet.
Always bring an extra pair of mittens or gloves, especially if you are an inexperienced skier. If you are spending a lot of time falling down, your gloves will get soaked, I just find it nice to have dry ones on hand. A neck warmer is a good idea. In some instances scarves are not allowed on ski hills as they can get caught in the chairlift or obscure vision. If you need to wear one, make sure that it can be tucked comfortable underneath your jacket. And of course a hat. A good hat, one that is insulated. It doesn't hurt if your jacket also has a hood, it can get mighty breezy on the chair lift.
- warm ones?
- Depending on what part of the state you go they might not have snow so check early. It could snow in Gatlinburg and not a drop could fall in Knoxville.
- A swimsuit, flip flops. It's really really warm in Tennessee right now. It's like 80 degree weather daily. It'll be like that till February. Don't worry. There's nothing to ski here in Tennessee. This isn't Colorado.
- Tennessee has mild winters. Not sure where you are going skiing. If you're going to Ober Gatlinburg it rarely gets cold enough for a good snow. Usually they have to make snow up there. My suggestion: pack a jacket, gloves and cap. That's about all you will need.
