What is the weather like on South Padre Island during Christmas? Will we be able to enjoy the beach?

We are thinking of visiting there for Christmas with our three kids for Christmas break. With our schedules at school and in ministry this is the best time for a family vacation!

1. I'll bet you have never been there. South Padre Island is an over priced, over rated over hyped destination. The ONLY restaurant in town is DENNY's... the shops, what few of them there are... sell T-shirts and sea shells at fantastic prices. The 'campground' that is run by the park service is over $400 a month and the showers don't even have SHOWER CURTAINS.
   
   
   
   South Padre Island is just about the biggest JOKE on the Texas Gulf Coast... even the water is a dull grey that looks more like used dish water than something you would want to swim in.
2. South Padre is a great place to just relax and do nothing. The weather in December is pleasant but am not sure about beach weather

4. I'm not really sure why Tommy bashed SPI...our family loves it! We're from Southern California and joined our Texas family in SPI and stayed at a Holiday Inn there. It was cold, but we walked on the beach anyway. Some of our relatives came from Iowa to join us, and they were loving the beach and the pool. We live 6 miles from the beach and were freezing! It all depends on what you're used to, I guess. The place is pretty desolate at Christmas, so if you like crowds, this is not the place for you.
