Village Break

Christmas Trip?

I am planning a romantic trip away for December (long weekend) to somewhere in Europe. I live in the U.K and want to go somewhere that isn't too long a flight. Ideally, I would love some snow (although not essential!) and I would like to go to a Christmas market. Does anyone have any ideas of good cities/places to go? I am open to suggestions!!!!! We have been to Berlin a couple of years ago. Thanks!

  1. Many Western European cities have a great Christmas atmosphere, and to some extent a similar one, because the decor and the commercial part are basically the same. But I'd have to say that in Germany this spirit is at its fullest and the most colourful. You may not like the commercialized bit, but it does sweep you and entails you and before you know it, you're humming a Carol with other passers by and smiling at the people in some old city or town square. I love Xmas in Munich, Viktualienmarkt. Really festive, really special and always white. It's also different from Berlin as Bavaria has a special flavour. If you're open to any suggestions, then you may also want to consider Budapest, which is charming at Christmas time.
