We are having a Christmas Fete and want Santa to go round the village?
on the back of a lorry/open top van, but someone has told us its illegal for any one to be on the back of an open lorry/van while its moving. Can anyone tell me if this is true and what legislation applies
Sorry should have said,

- this depends on where you live!
check with your local police department they know the law
- my vote would most definitely be a no, no, no
- The law is there for a reason. Have Santa ride in a convertible car or better yet, horse drawn wagon.
- what about the galas we have in the summer in scotland, they always have people on moving floats down the high streets! i would think it was legal.
Last christmas we had Santa pushing Mrs Claus in a wheelbarrow down the street so if not could always try that. It was hilarious!
- I am sure your local police can help you arrange suitable transport for santa be it on the van or otherwise. Always best to include the police anyway if your event is going to be using the roads. They may give you some of those wonderful PCO's to help your event along!!
